Notes & FAQs

Polymer clay - what is that actually?

Polymer clay is a malleable modeling clay that is hardened in the oven at 130 degrees Celsius. Polymer clay is basically vinyl. It is light, strong, flexible and can be mixed in any color.

Vinyl is plastic - not very sustainable...

The great thing about polymer clay is that the material can be mixed back into itself almost endlessly . Usually leftovers from past projects bring the most beautiful random effects!
This means that there is little or no waste and due to the manual production, in which I pay attention to good quality, you will have something of the piece of jewelry for a long time.

Are polymer clay earrings heavy?

Not at all! Polymer clay is a very light material and therefore ideal for large, unusual styles. The earrings usually only weigh a few grams.

Sexy back(s)

No glue is used when attaching the stainless steel stud earrings. They are baked in with liquid polymer clay that bonds to the earring itself . It's a few more steps, but it's worth it for the look and longevity of the earrings. Epoxy resin is used in particularly thin styles.

UV protection, please!

Unvarnished polymer clay doesn't really have a problem with the sun, even dirt can simply be washed off with soap.
The situation is different for the pieces that have a smooth, shiny surface (e.g. the color Night Sky or Apricot). Epoxy resin has been used here to make the earrings shine. With these earrings it is very important to keep them in a dark place, preferably in a box. Otherwise, the resin could turn yellow over time.

Are the hoop earrings nickel free?

The hoop earrings I use (eg. for flower hoops) and all the plugs are made of 304 stainless steel. According to the manufacturer, they are nickel-free, but nickel is always part of a stainless steel alloy. Nevertheless: The nickel ions are well bound in the stainless steel, so that they are also suitable for sensitive ears.
